The Darkness Syrah v.2022 is an almost mystical combination of power, finesse, fruitiness and earthiness, with a spectacular nose of savory earthiness loaded with black fruited magic. The palate is stuffed with rich, silky flavors of blackberry, black olive, coffee, cracked pepper and forest floor vibes to deliver a phantasmagoria of tasty goodness. A desert island wine for sure!
Food pairing: Goat cheese polenta with morel sherry vinaigrette or cassoulet with lots of duck and sausage
Movie pairing: The Shining
FOUNDERS’ NOTES: Darkness is our full throttle, wide-open desert island syrah from the Yakima Valley. Dick Boushey and Leif Olsen are arguably among the finest syrah growers in our universe today. We decided to make this wine in 2005 and have never looked back. It has gobs of high scores from many publications, including a 94 from Robert Parker's Wine Advocate for the 2014. It's called Darkness because.
"Boushey vineyard Syrah is among the very best in Washington, and this is a perfect example of why. It’s polished, balanced and precise, with flavors of boysenberry and blackberry, black olive graphite, accented with Asian spices. Ripe tannins and highlights of peppery phenolics – stem and skin and earth – roll through the finish. This is great Syrah, especially if you love the variety but do not favor the Rocks District funk. Both styles are exceptional; this is your go-to non-Rocks Syrah." 96/100 Paul Gregutt
