If I had a world of my own, everything would be nonsense. — Alice, in Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland
2023 Wonderland Grenache is full of the quixotic wonders of Grenache with a little help from its friends Syrah and Mourvèdre. Together they create a beauty with notes of baking spices, white pepper, tapenade, citrus, strawberries, mushrooms and things you may sense that perhaps are only for you. Tasty now and sure to unveil more goodies as time goes by.
Food pairing: Barbecue, which is a noun, or wild mushroom cassoulet
Movie pairing: Alice in Wonderland, duh
FOUNDERS’ NOTES:
Wonderland was first produced in 2010 as a wine club only limited release andwas named at our family dinner table during a period when the girls were both part of a theatre production of Alice in Wonderland. Seemed just right.
"There’s about 20% Mourvèdre and Syrah blended in. This shelters its complexity in youthful charm, but seems certain to expand aromatically and texturally with bottle age. Vineyard sources are undisclosed, but the wine has a cool sensibility, with brambly berry fruit cloaked in a frame of garden herbs. Savory, detailed and textured with a neat weave of phenolic highlights, this shares that style with Grenache from the French Pyrenees." 92/100 Paul Gregutt
